The first yote I ever shot was when I was deer hunting. I wish you luck. Another suggestion is if you don't trap see if you can find any local trappers. They may be able to help you that way. You might be able to find some on here or on some of the predator and trapping websites. I'd help you but I am a little far from you.

I would definitely be working on that coyote population either by calling or trapping them. I imagine that same farmer is loosing calves to the yotes too. Calling can be fun. But remember it is a tool for wildlife management. Many people (nonhunters) do not realize the importance of predator control. I have seen many pictures of what predators do to young wildlife and calves. The pictures are not pretty. Not just the coyotes but the cats too. Not to mention the effects on the bird populations. Our pheasant and quail populations are way down here between the weather and predation.
The other question I'd have is what the state laws are for dumping cattle carcasses. Every state is different on their laws. This is what I found for Kentucky:
State law requires farmers to dispose of dead animals through an approved method within 48 hours of death. These methods include incineration, boiling or steaming, burying, removal by a licensed rendering establishment, disposition in a contained landfill or composting. These methods are outlined in the Kentucky Agriculture Water Quality Act under Livestock Best Management Practice No. 15. Improper dumping of an animal carcass in a stream, sinkhole or field is unlawful, said Amanda Gumbert, UK extension water quality liaison.

It's only 3 more months until the Northern Missouri Coyote Calling contest. I have gotten several door prized donations from the hunting industry this year. If anyone is wanting info on the contest or wanting to donate you can contact me at

Results from Jackpot hunt
We had 36 entries for the hunt. Which is up about 12 from last year. It was tough hunting. The wind blew about 25 miles an hour all day. And the high for the day was about 28. In some areas it was snowing in the morning. Made for a very cold day. Made for very tough calling.
Out of the 36 who hunted only 7 teams got coyotes for a total of 8. Since I don't have permission by all the teams to use their names I will list by team #'s. And cause of the number of teams it was decided Friday night to have five places. All ties were broken by weight.

First place was team #20. They had 2 yotes and won $288.
Second place was team #2. They had 1yote and won $184.
Third place was team #3. They had 1 yote and won $144.
Forth place was team #9. They had 1 yote and won $72.
Fifth place was team #36. He had 1 yote and won $36.

Big dog was team #2. Yote weighed 33.5lbs. They won $175.
Little dog was team #30. Yote weighed 23.5. They won $175.
Mange dog was team #20. They won $165.

We'd like to thank everyone for their participation. And hope to see everyone back next year at the January 23rd hunt.
