i was just thinking it might be that most of the oaks are dead from the gypsy moths, no leaves no acorns. the state park by me has tons of dead trees from the moths, so many there is a list for firewood from these trees!
Hey Frank, here on the AL/TN line where my main farm is, I got a few white oak acorns..Bout a 200 acre square tract of hardwoods, they usually drop every year all in those woods, but just got a few of the bigger white oaks is droppin..Which is good, cause its harder to pattern the deer with em all droppin. We are so far behind on rain for the last 4 years its really hurtin my oaks..I was in Beech Grove, KY this past weekend filmin for a buddy of mine, and I have never seen acorns rain like they was there!!! It was amazing, you could not hear deer coming for the acorns dropping...Everywhere we went it was like that and some of those acorns were big as half dollars, only white oaks, red oaks didn't have a acorn on em..I'm headin out now to sit under a big white oak....GOOD LUCK and STAY SAFE!!!
Here in TN our white oaks are loaded up and some are dropping but i have only seen a couple of red oaks with acorns on them. Compared to last year we got a bumper crop of acorns this year.
LOADED UP here in Hammonton, cant walk by a tree without seeing any!!!!! For the hunters that Bait around here it is going to suck for the next 2 weeks, unless they ajust to the deer movement!
Frank.... Just started hitting real hard by my house in Atlantic County. I have a HUGE oak tree right next to my house and it sounded like a hail storm last night. Plus the deer haven't been hitting my bait as hard, we are getting lots of acorns down here.
