How many mornings have you as a hunter stuck your foot out from under to covers only to realize that it might be a little colder than you anticipated. You have to talk yourself into going and drag your butt out of bed. Well today was that kind of morning. I’m snuggled up with my three year old, Gabby, and the thought of leaving her warm little body and heading for a cold, hard tree in thirty degree weather didn’t seem too appealing. But Ryan talks me into it by saying this was the morning that… Continue

What a great trip we had in Nebraska. I took an 8 ptr and one of my buddies took a 14 ptr that scored 170+ green. I would recomend Nebraska to anyone looking for a good time and great deer!

I got this email the other day and I wanted to see if any of the other South Jersey Hunters heard about this yet. If it is a real jersey deer, congrats to who ever shot it!!! Awesome deer!!!

I've never done one yet and am working on my first one as we speak. So far i have taken the skin off the the skull ,let it rot outside for a week, and boiled it with a capfull of bleach for an hour. It is now back out in the weather with the horns wrapped up in plastic bag to prevent water damage. The skull looks a bit pale, how did o give it some color?? has anyone ever tried putting some sort of a clear coat polyurethane on the skull, how about maybe a thin layer of white paint?? I need some… Continue

Crazy day, i wanted to go but have been having a hardtime sleeping at night with the newborn keeping me up and being a light sleeper i never got to sleep until after 1am with the alarm set for 3am. The alarm goes off and i say screw this, i'm tired. 5am comes around and i woke up jumping out of the bed and said i'm going hunting and was out the door in 5 minutes. A hunter and his friend were sitting in a tall tower stand near highway 481 in Maverick Co., TX, early one cold December morning.
Suddenly, a huge buck walked out over the corn they had spread in the shrub with a tailgate feeder. The buck was magnificent.....a once in a lifetime animal. His rack was huge....the hunter's hand shook as his mind was already counting the Boone and Crockett points. Moving quickly, the hunter carefully aimed the Leopold scope on his .300 Win Mag at… Continue

One month and 8 days into this hunting season I find myself without any trophies to show or back strap to eat. The small does and yearlings that have appeared at day break seem like more trouble than they were worth or are not with in range. Besides, I am always hopeful that I will see something else, something with antlers, before the hunt is over. However, in most cases I find myself to be wrong. I keep hoping that the monster buck I am after is going to step out and give… Continue

Archery season has been in full swing since September here. And firearms starts in a week. With this going on it causes me to think about the management of the Whitetail herd. I have not taken a buck since 2003. But I have harvested several does. I am lucky to live in an area where they are abundant. Even though I live in an area that has an antler restriction I have an self imposed restriction. I can say the states antler restriction is causing more… Continue

This will be my first out of state (GA) whitetail hunt ever. My buddies have been on me for years to go hunting with them in Nebraska and I have always put them off. This year after four eyes surgeries on both my eyes I now realise there may not be a next year, so I'm off to Nebraska!
Thank you for stopping by. Good luck, and safe hunting!
