The social network site for hunters and fisherman.

I'm in the market for a 16 to 19' all purpose boat. Something I can go duck hunting, clamming, fishing in the river and fishing in the bay. River is brackish and the bay is obviously salt. Oldtimers tell me no on the aluminum due to corrosion, but the younger crowd disagrees because of the upgrades to aluminum. If anybody has any suggestions on the two boats please let me know, I'm stuck between the two.

I used to fish tournaments......I had a Stratos, fiberglass of course, in my opinion that's was perfect for what I did...Used to do alot of pre fishing and "scouting" for fish in a buddy of mine's 17' Triton, it was an aluminum boat, had a 50hp Johnson on it..It wasn't fast but thats all we needed and it sure as hell saved gas...If I was to go and buy another boat it would 4sure be aluminum...Just because they are tough as hell, they ride the rough water better, easier to clean, and you can use em for whatever....I would go aluminum Steve, thats just an ol Alabama boy's opinion...We rough on shit down here, and we ain't never managed to tear up an aluminum boat, that's sayin alot!!!! Fiberglass has alot more up keep than aluminum, if you duck hunt out of a fiberglass, sooner or later its gonna get cracked or busted somewhere...A dent in aluminum looks alot better than busted fiberglass!!!! Hope this was helpful, and keep em straight up there in Jersey!!!
